Bonchurch: The Most Painted Place

Bonchurch: The Most Painted Place saw Isle of Wight Free School students researching the landscape and maritime artists that painted at Bonchurch in the C.19th in a bid to make the case for its designation as a British ‘Artistic School’. Each student went on to select a particular artist to review before preparing an illustrated essay highlighting the reasons why they liked their work.

Students also participated in watercolour painting lessons ‘en plein air’ supported by one of the Island’s leading landscape artists. The best works together with submissions from IW Art Club members were displayed at Ventnor Botanic Garden in May 2019.
